So I've read several reviews only to be irritated by their cons. Call me biased because I love this game, but this game was brilliant. I won't describe the game mechanics as that's what the tutorials are for, or you can read what other people wrote on their summaries. But forget summaries, here's my Brief (honestly, would you rather read an essay style review?) review:
The visuals are like eye candy, can be confusing but that's where the challenge is. While you play with 2 different colored blocks you'll also enjoy a distracting music video in the background. And here's the twist, each song will have a different music video and color scheme to mess with your eyes. There is nothing Wrong with it, it makes it all the More fun with absurd random amusement. (example) Imagine yourself getting into the game and all of a sudden Gwen's Hollaback Girl music video plays to distract you from your moment of glory. Maybe people don't have my sense of humor or taste, but I find that hilarious. Not everyone will agree with the soundtrack, but I love it. Most of the tracks will be upbeat to get you into the game, while there will be some few random ones to throw you off your streak. Overall, it Should keep you smiling - no emo songs (no offense to emo genre, just saying that it'll keep you Smiling). On top of that, the game has plenty of side modes as well as replay value if you're the collector type. Now difficulty? I'd say it's as "hard" as Tetris without the dry monotony. Sooo if you're into all those many many games with blocks/gems falling down from screen (Tetris being the universal example), Lumines II is certainly promising.

Hey sports fans. What we have here is a very addicting puzzle game for the PSP. Time really flies by when you're playing this one. I'll admit there is a bit of a learning curve at first, but you'll soon grasp the game and some strategies as well. Additionally, the graphics are amazing, and a really cool soundtrack too. If you like puzzle games, as I do, I trust you'll love this game too. Have a great day.

Lumines = Crack for me

The Game is so addictive it's hard to put down. At first I found it insanely difficult, because the last puzzle game I really got into was Tetris, and this is a different idea. Maybe at first glance it looks the same as Tetris, but this is a puzzle game that is easy once you get the hang of it, but then to keep the game going and unlock new music videos, there is the real difficulty. Imagine a fun puzzle game with a great soundtrack by several different artists, (although a few songs tend to get old but I just mute the sound when I get to them in challenge mode and delete them for skin mode play.) I have a wireless network in my house and frequently go online with my PSP, but Lumines 2 seemed to have no one playing online in ANY of the lobbies. Now, I don't know if it is meant to be LAN only or what, I just assumed it was supposed to be wireless net compatible.... since LAN only sucks. So unless you have friends around with a PSP and this game, multiplayer may not be possible. Very addictive game play, great sounds, music is cool especially when you get a lot at once and the electric guitar riffs or whatever sound effect there is for that skin plays. A great experience. I am considering selling this game though as soon as I beat it because I really need Lumines 1 for the firmware downgrade and one Lumines is enough since they are both essentially the same game. (with the exception of the music vids.) If you want a Lumines game and don't care about the firmware then I would get Lumines II. Otherwise just get 1 because it can downgrade your PSP's firmware which is great. (for playing SNES and GBA emulators and junk.) But no need to purchase both.

Not my cup of tea

I like puzzle games. I've liked a lot of them. Tetris...Dr. Mario... and most recently Puzzle Quest..just to name a few.
I never tried Lumines 1, since I just recently got a PSP. So I picked up part 2 seeing that it's getting good reviews and part 1 is in most of the 'gotta have this for the psp' listmanias. I received my copy of part 2 a few days ago and played it for about 45 minutes. I just wasnt getting into it. I tried the challenge mode, puzzle mode, and also mission mode. All are 'fun' I'm assuming if you are into this game.
I love Tetris and think I'm really good at (or at least I used to be). This game seems a lot like tetris with the exception of everything coming down in a four square bock with 2 different colors usually. You have to create cubes of 4 squares which can be added on to by 2 other same colored squares to create a 6 block square..then 8...then 10...it can keep going up until the time line (which is pretty quick) flys by it erasing the completed blocks. As you progress, the colors of the cubes will change during play..as well as the music and backgrounds...which I'm guessing is there to try to confuse you or maybe just change up the look of things.
I didnt find this fun...at all. I was really bored.
Since I really didnt care for the game, I'll list some reasons why I do think the game is decent for fans of it. The Puzzle mode seems pretty challenging which is always a good thing...if you care for the game. Mission mode was probably my favorite mode. I like puzzles where they want you to do something in a certain amount of trys, and this is what mission mode basically is. You cant mess up one time or you lose. The graphics are bright in this game also. Very colorful.
If you arent interested in or only mildly interested in puzzlers, I wouldnt recommend getting this. I think this game might be only for diehard fans of puzzlers, cause it was pretty boring.

Time, it just melts away when I play this or the original game. What felt like 10 minutes, becomes 1 to 2 hours gone. It's great fun; has awesome music and addicting gameplay. Super useful when waiting for an appointment, long transits, or just one really lazy afternoon.
